Night of the Moonjellies

The Night of the Moonjellies book had a lot of aspects that are familiar to our life. We live on the coast of New England and our papa has a hotdog cart just like in the book. The kids wanted to read this story over and over again! Here are some activities we did along with the book.

Mathematics-(money,running a small business)
Lily,Aj and Sienna opened their own hotdog cart using real money and their creativity.

Language-(first person point of view, making a list) We talked about the boy who told the story and how he talks about himself using I,me and mine. Lily and Aj also told me what items they would need if they had their own hotdog cart. I wrote them down on a list and they drew pictures of them!

Social studies-(Geography)
Learnings about New England has been great for the kids considering that's were we live. We placed the story disk on the map of the world. We also colored a map of new england and Massachusetts.

Science-(moonjellys,aquatic biomes)
We have learned all about jellyfish and aquatic biomes. We did a picture with stickers of a ocean biome. We learned about the animals and plants that live their.Lily and Aj stayed up late one night to walk to the beach and see the moonjellys light up. We did see a few. The next day we took a trip to the beach and saw a jellyfish washed up on the beach. The kids thought that making their own jellyfish was so fun. We used plastic bags and light up bracelets. Then they put their jellyfish in the sink to swim. We shut the light off to see them glow.

Art-(watercolor,pastel colors)
We decided to paint pictures of jellyfish using watercolors. We used a splatter painting technique. We learned that pastel colors were light, soft and gentle.

Book we used!
