Lets pretend we are penguins!

Penguins are funny looking birds who don't know how to fly. Lily and Aj wondered what it would be like to be a penguin so we decided to do some experiments to learn how to live, eat, and think like a penguin. We used all our senses to discover penguins!!Here is what we did!!

Lily and Aj got too see how a baby penguin is born. They enjoyed caring for their egg just like penguin parents. Some penguins make nest for their eggs so the kids found blankets around the house to make their nest. Other penguins hold their babies on their feet so lily and Aj practiced walking with their egg on their feet.It was time for our egg to hatch so we put it in water over night. The next morninging the kids watched it hatch and grow.

What keeps a penguin warm in cold weather? We did an experiment using feathers and ice. Lily and Aj learned that the penguins feathers keep them warm.

Are we taller then an empire penguin? We measured ourselves against a life sized poster.

We made an iceberg using a balloon filled with water frozen in a plastic bag. Lily and Aj observed what happens as the water freezes. We removed the plastic bag from the ice and found their where bubbles and cracks. The iceberg went into a pan of water where it floated. Then the kids played with a penguin, whale and seal figurine. They learned that penguins live in really cold places and what it takes to make your home on ice.

Happy Birthday Statue of Liberty

We celebrated the Statue of Liberty birtday by reading 2 books, making a paper statue and doing an experiment with a penny and vinegar. We found that the Statue of Liberty is made out of copper just like the penny. It only looks green because of oxidation.
