A Pair of Red Clog!

A Pair of Red Clogs was a great book about a young Japanese girl whose mom bought her new clogs. The kids enjoyed reading this book and doing the activities along with the book.
Literature(reminiscing,vocabulary)- we learned what reminiscing was. Lily ans Aj told stories about when they were baby's which I video taped.(I was unable to download the videos) We also learned the word Lacquer means a shiny paint.
Art(warm colors, crosshatching) Lily and Aj determined that the medium that was used to illustrate this book was colored pencil. We noticed that warm colors were a recurring pattern throughout the book. We used only warm colors on our picture. Crosshatching was used to create the pictures so we tryed it on a copy of a famous Japanese painting.
Math(playing store,money,counting)-Lily and Aj set up a shoe store putting price tags on all their shoes. They also used real money to pay for the items they were going to purchase. Counting all of the shoes was fun too.
Social Studies-(Japanese Culture, geography)While reading a pair of red Clogs we learned about Japan. Here are some of the books and movies we used. We also made a Japanese flag and ate a Japanese dinner on the floor with chop sticks.
Science-(weather,meteorology) we played the Japanese weather forecasting game.
