This was a book about friendship and kindness. Lily and Aj enjoyed all of the activities that went along with reading this book.
Social Studies(Geography-Setting)
This story is set in Andesonville but it never mentions what state its in. We do notice the illustration of the lion statues at the entrance to the New York Public Library. Because of this illustration we place our story disc on New York city. The kids also found New York in our atlas and colored worksheets about the state. They love talking about New York and cant wait to visit one day. I listed the books we read.
While reading this book we counted many different objects. Some example are books,animals etc.. The kids also did 3 pages of word problems related to the book.
Science: (Lions)
The kids learned a lot about lions. We read books and did 4 science based worksheets on what we read. We talked about lions being carnivores, mammals and their lifespan among other facts.
Language Arts- (Aesop's Fables,copy work, library skills)
Lily read the story of The Lion and the Mouse out loud to her brother. Then the kids answered questions about the story. We also discussed the ways the Aesop's fable and Andy and the Lion were similar and different. The kids found that each story is about kindness and we shared memories about kindness repaid. Lily and Aj copied a page from the story in their best handwriting. They also did a work sheet L is for Lion. Last but not least went on a trip to the library where the kids learned how to find books using the computer catalog. Lily and Aj also wrote a list of their favorite books.
The kids made paper plate lions with glue and crayons.
We went to an arcade where the kids could play games and ride on rides. They colored there own paper circus and watched a movie and read a book about circuses.
