This Book recreates the childhood of the woman traditionally remembered as the maker of the first American flag, which was secretly presented to General George Washington in Philadelphia in 1776.

We have decided to read this story from the curriculum "Beyond Five In A Row" next. Please read each chapters posts.

Activities the children completed before starting the story

The kids watched a video from you- tube about Betsy Ross's life and they also went on a tour of her home in Pennsylvania on the computer. They read an article to learn about Betsy Ross and completed a worksheet and coloring page. ( These worksheets came from www.teacherspayteachers.com)

Textile art of the Chiapas Maya

Lily and Aj learned about Mayan woman who weave designs into their cloth. They tried drawing the flower design. They both did a fantastic job!

Chapter 6- Wheels of Progress

Chapter Summary-
This chapter is about the "modern way" to build homes- mass production! with a few mishaps along the way, the homes are soon finished and all of Centerburg turn out for the 150 year celebration of Centerburg!

This is the last chapter of this book. The kids were sad to have it come to an end! They really enjoyed all the excitement and antics that Homer was involved with. We will be starting the next book soon.
