Over the next four years, Pierre and Marie work diligently separating Radium and pitch blend. They work in a terrible facility- an old shed with poor ventilation, a broken roof, and a weak stove for warmth. At one point a university in Sweden offers them a workspace. They decide not to take the office space. Maries father passes away and she misses him greatly.

What we will cover in this chapter-
Science: Periodic table of the Elements
History and Geography: Bavaria

Science: Periodic table of the Elements
Lily and Aj Participated in a class through Outschool about the Periodic Table. They also watched a science video on Hoopla called Introduction to the Periodic Table. After watching the video, they completed a worksheet from Twinkle.com.

History and Geography: Bavaria

We watched a video called the 10 things to do in Bavaria. We also found Bavaria on a map of Germany and learned about its flags.

Thanks for reading! 😊

One, Marie names the element  Polonium after Poland. The other remains a mystery and the work continues. They discover Radium after many moths of work. Pierre and Marie take a much needed break. The vacation does them good.

What we will Learn from this chapter-
History and Geography-Spanish American War- An Introduction
Science: Radium, X-rays

Science: Radium and X-Rays
Lily and Aj watched a video about Radium. The video was called The Discovery of Radium. They also watched a slide show from Twinkle.com about Marie Curie and X-rays. The enjoyed playing bone bingo. They Also created a flip book and made their own X-ray.

History and Geography-Spanish American War-
An Introduction
Lily and Aj watched a video on you-tube about the Spanish-American war. They also completed a reading comprehension worksheet and a word search from Kids Connect.com.

Thanks for reading!

Marie Curie- Chapter 8: A surprising Discovery

Chapter Summary-
Marie and Pierre work together on their scientific research projects. Marie is also working on her doctorate degree- trying to be the first women in Europe to obtain one.  In 1897 marie’s first daughter in born Irene. She comes up with a idea for her thesis. Marie decides to find out why rays are givin off by uranium salt. Henri Becquerel discovered this. Soon Maries research leads her to discover  a unknown element.

What we will cover in this chapter-
History and Geography- Henri Becquerel
Science- Uranium

History and Geography- Henri Becquerel
They learned about Henri Becquerel by reading worksheets and completing a timeline. We used Kids Connect for worksheets.

Science- Uranium
We watched two videos on Uranium. They were What is Uranium? And How Uranium Becomes Nuclear Fuel? The kids also created an Acrostics Poem about what they learned about Uranium.

Thanks for reading! Chapter 9 is up next!

Finally, a research ship on the Baltic Sea spotted him and its crew rescued the dog, soon to be known as Baltic.

Science: Chemistry-Experiments-
Lily and Aj used their Science Lab kit to conduct chemistry experiments. They used the step by step guide in the kit to do experiments such as Gravity-Defying water, identify the gas and more....
