The Giraffe That Walked To Paris

Lily and Aj enjoyed reading this book so much that we spent the entire month learning about Ancient Egypt and giraffes. Check out all of the fun activities we did.
Social Studies- Egypt, History
The Story of The Giraffe That Walked To Paris begins in Egypt, a country on the continent of Africa. We placed our story disk on the world map and drew a picture of Africa. We colored coloring books, did work sheets, visited a museum, made pop up books and so much more.
Drawing a map of Africa and Egypt
Lily and Aj did work sheets about Papyrus, Gods and Goddesses, the Nile River, and the Sphinx. They also made pop up books about the inside and outside of the Giza Pyramid. They also played a game on the computer on how to make a mummy.
The kids colored books about Ancient Egypt.
I read the Book The Story of the World to Lily and Aj.(Chapters Chapters 2-6 and 11-14)
We went on a field trip to the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard Museum of Natural History,and the Semitic Museum Harvard.
Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology- Lily and Aj got to meet an archaeologist, see a 3-d movie of the pyramids, look at stone under a microscope, trace tablets and participate in history and science related activities.
Harvard Museum of Natural History- Lily and Aj looked at rocks, minerals and meteorites.
Semitic Museum Harvard- Lily and Aj got to play in a full size replica of an Egyptian house. They helped make a ceramic pot. Also Lily and Aj looked at mummies and other Egyptian artifacts.

When we went to the Peabody Museum in Boston Lily and Aj really enjoyed looking at the egyptian art and mummies. We decided to make our own mummies and coffins using toilet paper, paper and paint. They also made pyramids using sugar cubes and frosting.
Science- giraffes, animal behavior
In the book The Giraffe That Walked To Paris King Charles X notices that the Giraffe does not walk like a horse. The kids found it fun spending time learning about animals. We talked about how giraffes walk and and why. They learned that giraffes swing both of their right legs and then they swings both their left legs because they have a short body and long legs. Lily and Aj tried imitating how a giraffe walks.
Lily and Aj spent a lot of time learning about giraffes. Where they live?, How much they weigh?, How tall they are?, What they eat?, How they care for their young?,Who their predators are? and much more... Lily and Aj made poster boards with all their projects on it.
Here is the books we read and movie we watched.
Last month we went to Roger William Zoo and observed the giraffes. We also watched a movie about a giraffe being born.
