Space Exploration
This month we have been learning about the sun, moon and stars.we did an experiment to learn about day and night.
Lily and Aj colored astronauts. Then we put them on balloons to show that their is no gravity in space.
We also cut and colored rocket ships.
The kids ate moon rocks! They used toothpicks to transfer marshmallows from one bowl to another. Then we counted the ones that made it!
We played with balloon rockets.
We made pictures of outer space with glue, stickers and cutouts.
We made patterns with space gold fish! (We ate them too!)
Here are some of the books, movies and music we used while learning about space.
A Pair of Red Clog!
A Pair of Red Clogs was a great book about a young Japanese girl whose mom bought her new clogs. The kids enjoyed reading this book and doing the activities along with the book.
Literature(reminiscing,vocabulary)- we learned what reminiscing was. Lily ans Aj told stories about when they were baby's which I video taped.(I was unable to download the videos) We also learned the word Lacquer means a shiny paint. Art(warm colors, crosshatching) Lily and Aj determined that the medium that was used to illustrate this book was colored pencil. We noticed that warm colors were a recurring pattern throughout the book. We used only warm colors on our picture. Crosshatching was used to create the pictures so we tryed it on a copy of a famous Japanese painting. Math(playing store,money,counting)-Lily and Aj set up a shoe store putting price tags on all their shoes. They also used real money to pay for the items they were going to purchase. Counting all of the shoes was fun too.
Social Studies-(Japanese Culture, geography)While reading a pair of red Clogs we learned about Japan. Here are some of the books and movies we used. We also made a Japanese flag and ate a Japanese dinner on the floor with chop sticks.
Science-(weather,meteorology) we played the Japanese weather forecasting game.

Happy Memorial Day!
On Memorial Day we went to remember our great papa who passed away. He was a paratrooper in World War one. The Town of Hull recognized his service by renaming Lynn street after him. ( This is where he lived for the 30 years) The ceremony was heartfelt and touching. After we went back to a cousin's house for a cookout.
We also took a walk on the beach.
We ate watermelon, read a couple of books and watched a movie about Memorial Day when we got home.
