History and Geography- Albert Einstein
History and Geography-The Treaty of Versailles
Science- Kidneys

                                History and Geography- Albert Einstein
Lily and Aj watched  a video about Albert Einsteins Life Story. They also completed worksheets about Einsteins life.

History and Geography- Marie Curies Daughter, Irene
We Leaned that Maries Daughter was a scientist also. We looked about pictures of her and went on Nobelprize.org to learn more about Irene.

Science- Kidneys
The kids watched a  Short video called How do your kidneys work?. They also read a book on Hoopla. They also completed worksheets and saw a virtual reality kidney from Twinkle.com.

History and Geography-The Treaty of Versailles

We Watched a video called The Treaty of Versailles From Kahn Academy. They also completed these books from twinkle.com about The Treaty of Versailles

Thank you for following our blog and reading about the activities we completed. Lily and Aj enjoyed most of the activities. This was a tough time for us because we were unable to go on any field trips at the time we read this book. Marie Curie- Chapters 11-12, Awards and Sorrows, Tragedy

Chapter summary-
Marie and Pierre continue to work on their great scientific work. Many people are anxious to learn about research, and the curies try their best to answer all their questions. They refuse to charge for their knowledge as well. They believe it would not be in the interest of “pure” science if they sold their work, instead of sharing it.

Soon they discovered another important property of radium. It can burn skin tissue. Immediately people begin thinking that it can destroy skin cells- like cancer and tumors. We call it Radiation therapy today. Many awards have been given to the Curries. Marie gives birth to a second daughter, Eve. On April 19, 1906 Pierre is killed in a horse and carriage accident. Marie is hired by the Sorbonne School becoming the first women physics teacher. Marie also discovers a way to measure radium and she receives a a second Nobel Prize in 1911.

What will we cover in this chapter-
Science: The dangers of Radioactive materials
Fine Arts: A Famous Sculpture- The Thinker, Rodin

Fine Arts: A Famous Sculpture- The Thinker, Rodin
The kids were surprised the the Curies were friends with such a famous artist. Lily and Aj watched a video called Rodin, The Father of Modern Sculpture . They also Completed a worksheet about shading and values.

Science: The dangers of Radioactive Materials
Lily and Aj watched a video from YouTube about the Dangers of Radiation. Then they watched a powerpoint slideshow on Chernobyl and completed a reading comprehension worksheet from twinkle.com.

Thanks for reading!  ðŸ˜Š

Marie Curie-Chapter 10: Four Hard Yard

Chapter summary-
Marie and Pierre announce their discovery of Radium, but the scientific community wants more proof. In order to allow other scientists to observe and study their new find, the Curies must isolate and produce”pure: radium.

Over the next four years, Pierre and Marie work diligently separating Radium and pitch blend. They work in a terrible facility- an old shed with poor ventilation, a broken roof, and a weak stove for warmth. At one point a university in Sweden offers them a workspace. They decide not to take the office space. Maries father passes away and she misses him greatly.

What we will cover in this chapter-
Science: Periodic table of the Elements
History and Geography: Bavaria

Science: Periodic table of the Elements
Lily and Aj Participated in a class through Outschool about the Periodic Table. They also watched a science video on Hoopla called Introduction to the Periodic Table. After watching the video, they completed a worksheet from Twinkle.com.

History and Geography: Bavaria

We watched a video called the 10 things to do in Bavaria. We also found Bavaria on a map of Germany and learned about its flags.

Thanks for reading! 😊

Marie Curie- Chapter 9: More Discoveries

Chapter Summary-
Marie works hard to find the new element she believes exists in pitchblende. Pierre is so fascinated by her work, he soon joins her. Soon they discover what they believe is two elements! One, Marie names the element  Polonium after Poland. The other remains a mystery and the work continues. They discover Radium after many moths of work. Pierre and Marie take a much needed break. The vacation does them good.
