Anatomy and Psysiology: Unit 4 Digestive and Renal System

All of your life you have been eating food - taking it in your mouth and swallowing it. The kids have been learning about what happens to your food after you put in in your mouth. Here are some of the activities we did while reading Chapter 4.

We did this experiment from our book using a measuring tape to mark off how long our small intestine is. We found 20 feet to be very long.

The kids also simulated their stomachs in action, We used bread, water and a zip lock bag. They begin squeezing and squishing there bags just like their stomachs might do. We learned this is what happens to your stomach when it churns.

They labeled the digestive system in a page in there science DK workbooks.

Our Journal entries- Copy work, coloring, and information about the digestive system.

The kids added the digestive system and the renal system to their body wall. It was added over the skeletal system and under the muscular system.

They also put together a puzzle about the digestive system.

The last activities Lily and Aj did with this chapter was creating comic strip about what they had learned about the digestive system.

Anatomy and Psysiology: Unit 2 Skeletal System

We have been studying about what bones do, bone anatomy, broken bones, ligaments and bone marrow.

Activities we did-
The kids shaped a human body from clay. They used tooth picks as bones to help there figures stand up. They learned that without bones there own bodies would be like jello and fall to the ground.

We also did an experiment using eggs, water and a plastic container. We learned that with out a skull protecting our brain it would break like an egg with out protection.

The kids put together a skeleton and we read a book.

Pages from our Journals

Other Materials Used-
Pop up chart, skeleton

We added a skeleton to our body and added more pictures to our body wall!

We also dissected a chicken to do an experiment with the bones.  We learned about bone Marrow and calcium.

Anatomy and Psysiology: Unit 1

The kids learned about the introduction to Anatomy and Physiology. This first chapter was about the Greeks, Egyptians, Hebrews, Romans, and Europeans. It explained how these culture developed the ideas of heath and cleanliness.

They also learned about cell anatomy and how to draw them.

We started a body wall. We will add pictures to the wall as we learn more about our bodies. On our body wall we made our body and added skeleton and a lift the flap cell the kids made.

We made an edible cell out of jello and candy!

Kids loved the first chapter and cant wait for chapter 2!
